For what it’s worth, Miramax was owned by Disney when thet did Pulp Fiction.

Didn't Dark Knight and Watchmen prove that Marvel movies already fail? Well, Iron Man was pretty awesome, and the Incredible Hulk was way above par for the quality of story Marvel movies have had, but so much other stuff Marvel has done just blows.
Still, I wasn't particularly excited when I heard about the acquisition. I guess as long as they don't dub the Iron Man anime, I'm cool.

Obviously I mean those two DC movies have set the standard in terms of good comic book movies, whereas Marvel has only produced one movie, Iron Man, that even meets the standard.

I'm not sure that proves much. Other than Batman and Watchmen, what other attempts Warner Bros. has made at super-heroe movies? Superman? Can't think of others.

Yeah, but I would say Marvel has had more failed attempts. For example, as good as the first two Spiderman movies were, I would only say they were good comic book movies. By comparison, Iron Man, Dark Knight, and Watchmen were good movies, pure and simple. So we're talking one gem for Marvel amongst a horde of mediocre or just plain bad (Ghost Rider, ack!) movies.
I know I sound like a fanboy talking like this, but it's only because I'm a big Marvel fan that I'm so critical.
Still, you're right, in general it's a pretty weak comparison because both franchises have had very awful movies made. Damn you, Schumacher! ><

Marvel started making some good movies once they took back their licences and started producing them more in-house. So far they've only produced Iron Man and Incredible Hulk since that happened, and while I never got around to seeing the Hulk I though Iron Man was excellent.
I heard that apparantly Max Factor used to own Marvel way back in the 70s. Don't know much about that yet, but if its true I don't think anyone'll have to worry that much about Disney.

I think it shouldn't be allowed under "Monopoly" laws alone. And I do think they'll rub off all the rough edges to create a more "PC" marvel and I don't mean Pacific Comics. (FemForce, etc.) Like, they'll have the Punisher go back to "Mercy Bullets"…
It's not just a knee-jerk reaction. Disney's in house culture has for years kept Animation as being either "Kids" or "Family" or NOTHING, meaning the once or twice a decade "Underground" thing, notably Bakshi's works. They fired Harlan Ellison in half a day. Some workers made dirty jokes to get him to play along and used it to get him fired. Nice work environment. And they protect their copyright even if it means going on their fans like rabid animals, despite them using mostly "Public Domain" stuff for their own movies.
In the 90s they sent armed guards and a lawyer with a court order to cover up the walls of a daycare center with black paint because the staff had painted Disney figures on the wall. Disney didn't even sell any painting service at the time and made it impossible ($ in the millions) to ask for such a license. Nice way to treat your biggest fans who scream "Mommy! I want!!!"… Warner bros. did a big smack down on them by sending their own artists there to re-paint the walls, free of charge and a limited no-royalty license given.

This, actually, caught me by surprise, as well.
Still, my 'inner fanboy' is considering this a golden opportunity – with the potshots that Warner Bros and Disney have taken at each other over the years and all the franchises that they own (WB has DC Comics and Mortal Kombat; Disney owns the Muppets), I have every reason to believe that they'll spark an animated 'war' and use either the comic book, video game or animated medium as their 'battlefield'.
(Roger Rabbit 2: Anime-hem, perhaps?)
In fact, if written well, the resulting product(s) could answer some nagging questions we (may) have had about some of their characters.
Let's just see what other surprises the future has in storage for us. ^_^

Disney has a track record of buying up competitors to either destroy or shelve. Inspector Gadget and Doug come to mind, on top of many more.
Not that Marvel has been that good lately IMO, but Disney killed Saturday morning cartoons, drove most non-Disney animation studios out of movie theaters, and now will apply their family-friendly corporate thinking on Marvel.
Yes, Disney not only owned Miramax but also makes a good deal of money off of soft-core pay-per-view porn channels. But Marvel creates super-heroes and comics aimed at "kids" (anyone who knows anything about the industry knows this isn't true, but those who aren't into comics believe that teenage boys are the main buyers) and my fear is that Disney will put their spin on those super-heroes, purposefully aiming them at 13-15 year old boys.
Who knows, his could be a good thing. But I tend to distrust mergers, and expect only bad things from this.

GE isn't an entertainment giant with a bad rep.
It may have a bad rep, but you know the guys who run GE don't watch (or approve of) Olbermann or Maddow.
Disney has a rep of eliminating competition via buying it. And since the apparent reasoning for Disney to buy Marvel was to offset the fact that Disney has fallen into only targeting tween girls and "supposedly" Marvel targets teen boys (if so is Disney in for a shock) then you know Disney's buying Marvel wasn't a monetary purchase to have more profitable businesses under it's wing (what GE would do) especially since Marvel had been bankrupt how long, but instead Disney's purchase is an attempt to corner and control a whole market – kids entertainment.

Still ultimately this discussion is about what Disney will do with their newly acquired property. The acquisition does worry me, but I'm willing to give Disney a chance to not fuck up – as there's nothing I can do about it anyway.

Its weird honestly. But lots of people its imagine that you'll heard crossovers between Disney characters and Marvel ones…in my opinion that's ought to be a terrible experience of epic proportions. And hey if they bought Marvel for 4 Billion $, nothing stop them to buy DC Comics as well. Or those comic companies uniting themselves against Mickey Mouse threat.

You either completely missed my point or purposefully ignored my point to make your joke. To add context to what you quoted I'll add the very next line of what I said -

In short I was saying that while GE may have a bad rep to some people, that bad rep is not as an entertainment giant.
