Sick or injured squirrel
Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 7:31 pm
I’m not sure what’s the deal with this squirrel. He’s often in my backyard and he’s always running on the ground. He seems to have difficulty climbing to trees. He acts like my rats when they where ill. There’s a nest between us and the neighbor’s block on the 3rd floor. He doesn’t seem big enough to be an adult, but he’s not small enough to be a lost kid. This has been going on for almost a week. In the first shot, I found him sleeping on the ground, which I’ve never seen a squirrel do. That seems pretty dangerous for him. He got pissed when I took the close-up photo. An angry squirrel is kinda scary.

Rabies?

All I can suggest is that you look up the problem on google; like type squirrel, hurt, rabies symptoms, etc. Or look on your city’s website and see if they have a wildlife section relating to squirrels and what you should do if they are injured.
The least you can do is lay out some water and food for him. like some birdseed or actual squirrel food if you can get it. (see web for other food options)
hope that helps

You can’t hardly tell at first, not till they get to the point of slobbering and staggering around. When you see a critter in that fix, you know for sure. But you want to watch for others that ain’t that far along. Now, you take a bobcat or a fox. You know they’ll run if you give ‘em the chance. But when one don’t run, or maybe makes fight at you, why, you shoot him and shoot him quick. After he’s bitten you, it’s too late.

I doubt very much he’s rabid.
I haven’t seen him in two days.
