Miss Dynamite’s star belt

Someone was asking me the other day why Eva’s Soviet-star belt is upside-down. It has a pretty obscure origin.

Right after the fall of Communism in the early 90s, a Russian stripper supposedly popular in her homeland (I doubt that) made a visit to Montreal and appeared on a local televised talk show (Ad Lib on TVA). This was somewhat notable at the time because during the Cold-War, the stereotype of Russian women was butch steroid-boosted East German athletes built like farm machinery. With her stripperiffic Red Army uniform, she was wearing an upside-down Soviet star on her cap. She explained that it symbolized the fall of Communism.

I thought it was interesting and used it later (Much later it seems because I can’t find an example dating before the anime). It can also double as a pentagram, which is a plus.

Later in the interview, the stripper misunderstood something the host said and thought he had asked her to get naked. Which she started to do before they stopped her… damn it!

  1. This reminds me that you forgot something: low-riding pants :P

  2. I don’t think I’ve ever drawn those. I hate them.

  3. And here I thought it was like a sign of Eva’s partially corrupted communist ideals in lew of capitalistic personal gains.

  4. It’s that too.

  5. Doubling as a pentagram?

Circe: “And now to humiliate you in public. Removing clothing!”

Eva’s top and bra vanish while Blackie’s dress totally disappears, not that she minds at all.

Circe: “What? Why aren’t you naked!?!”

Eva: “My mystically enchanted belt buckle protects me from such magics, you stupid witch.”

Eva mows down Circe with a burst from her AK-47, then heads off to try and stop Blackie running around giggling her breasts in everyone’s faces.

  7. I just noticed that a Linka of Captain Planet, a character that looks oddly similar to Eva, also has a Red Army star belt buckle. Though, she wears hers upsided.

  8. Another reason for me to hate Captain Planet.
