Paramount distributes an incomplete Captain America

Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 1:49 pm

I went to see Captain America at Montréal’s StarCité theater and the epilogue and Avengers teaser was absent after the credits. I contacted Cineplex Entertainment who told me that this is how the movie is distributed by Paramount to Cineplex theaters. So I tried to contact the Paramount distribution division and… there’s no way for theater customers to file a complaint. So the only way for me to see the teaser is to watch a bootleg on the Internet. And then Hollywood wonders why people download pirated movies?

  1. >implying u wouldent do it in the end anyway

  2. Well I paid for my ticket either way.

  3. Right, so they have no business complaining if you go online to download and watch something that they provided to other franchises, but not the one you saw the film at. It was their choice to omit the product, so if you go somewhere else to find it they have nobody to blame but themselves.

  4. Believe me, Sirk, you’re not the only victim.

It’s the way (some parts of) the business world work these days – buy music on CD or iTunes and your computer is infected with invasive ‘copy protection’ rootkits; buy a game and you’ll not only infect your computer with DRM but you’ll only get part of the game that you paid for (the rest is labelled ‘DLC’). 9_9

And, if you try to buy your favorite (North American) films and TV series on DVD or BluRay, you’ll likely get a heavily censored version for your ‘support’. (I was steaming mad when I found out that the music samples in Daria were replaced with generic crap. No licensed music = **NO SALE!!!**)

I don’t like piracy and, in fact, hope it goes the way of the dodo but, if the various media companies plan to continue punishing their *paying* customers, this ‘uncontrolled method of distribution’ will remain popular.

*wonders if there are enough brooms in the world to ‘clean house’* -_-(_)

  5. Most DLC is created after the game is realeased. It adds to the life, in my opinion, assuming that it’s not day one shit. “Am I to understand that you purposefully left out these levels right from the get go? Fuck you in the ass.”

  6. ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

Hate to burst your bubble, but DLC is going the way of marketing ploy. Most of it is/will be “day one shit”.

The Bethesda Fallout games are a perfect example… they could have raised that level cap and added to that “ending” in Fallout 3 from jump. New Vegas is worse in that the final add-on they’re releasing contains content they CUT from the retail (Ulyssess was supposed to be one of the encountered followers, and he and all his story arcs were cut due to “lack of room”… but now it’s DLC you can buy for extra. Hmmm…)

  7. as for the original subject, this theatre chain should at least offer a discount. The Marvel/P.S. thing is widely known and expected. I know it seems like such a little thing, but it’s almost like them not getting the final reel of a film and turn around & tell you “You paid us and saw what we showed you, so you’re S.O.L.” I would say you haven’t gotten your ticket value.

  8. Actually the level cap and poor ending were simply bad decisions, braketed by how long it took the first DLC to be released. And yeah, there’s only a certain ammount of room on the disks. However there’s more room on your own hardrive. They figure if they must cut (and things are cut all the time) but it’s still good, wy not offer it? I’d have preferred if more games had done that earlier. So many good ideas cut out becuase of time and space….
